Founded in 1983, AVATAR is a unique non-profit organization dedicated to education, fellowship and support among gay men interested in “kinky” or BDSM sexual practices. The name ‘Avatar’ comes from the Sanskrit word meaning "the incarnation of a deity." Avatar facilitates the frank exchange of ideas and fantasies in an atmosphere of mutual respect, free of stereotyped images, roles and judgment.
Avatar’s main activity is to conduct monthly informational programs that provide a friendly, supportive environment for learning about BDSM practices. Knowledgeable, experienced players present information from experts sources and demonstrate effective and safe techniques. Subjects range from the basics of old favorites such as ‘Bondage 101’ to more advanced or ‘edge’ scene.
